Gifts delivered to Head Start
On Friday, December 16th, Pat and Vivian Heading, George Fryburg and Peggy Snyder delivered approximately 120 gifts from our club to the Head Start Program.

Pat reports:  “We helped pass out gifts on a per class basis and took plenty of pictures.  It was a heartwarming experience with many thanks from the kids and staff.  The extra gifts will be given to children that were not present at the time of the party and also, some will be used at the school for daily use.  The teachers were very gratified to see such generosity.

All together we received $570.00 for gifts.  Vivian purchased about 36 gifts and spent $405.00.  I presented a check to the manager for $165.00 to be used for classroom supplies."

On a personal level, Pat and Vivian expressed thanks for being able to “represent the club for this effort.  We both enjoy doing it and would like to express to the club our thanks and the thanks we get from the Head Start staff and kids.”

Thanks to Pat, Vivian, George and Peggy for representing our club and touching the hearts of the children at Head Start.  Thanks to all our membership for their generosity and kindness.  There were many special moments at Head Start on Friday, felt by adult and child alike. Magical moments are rare, wonderful and remembered.  Be sure to ask Pat, Vivian, George and Peggy for some stories.  More photos

New Table for Club - Thanks Joe Reeves!
Joe and Esther Reeves returned to Daytona in early October and brought the beautiful new table you see at our club.  The tables length is a fraction of an inch shorter than the back of Joe's truck and the height is both 28" and 31".  He accomplished this feat by having a 3 inch segment on each leg which can be unscrewed. Very impressive Joe! It's a beautiful table and we owe him a big thanks.

Where's Joe Reeves?
And what's he doing?

(Click photo to enlarge)
Joe is in Ohio and sent this picture to Gail Rust with the explanation "one of the maintenance crew of the Metro Bridge Club turning a table leg (this in lieu of actually playing bridge)"  Joe Reeves made the beautiful furniture used by the Game Directors and, is working on a new table for our club. We admire Joe's craftsmanship, appreciate his generosity and delight in using his creations.  We are very lucky to have him as a member of our club and miss him when he's at the furniture factory in Ohio.  Thank you Joe and we look forward to you and Esther returning this fall.  (Posted August 31, 2005)

New Year's Eve Party     Pictures
A delicious meal, good friends, and bridge ... a perfect way to welcome in the New Year! Max and Betty Bayard, Sarah and Wayne Ash and Neil and Judy McCall cooked turkeys, decorated the club and organized the scrumptious potluck dinner. Thanks for making it a special evening and thanks to everyone for the delicious side dishes, appetizers, deserts and drinks.

We had 15 tables, 9 in the Open Section and 6 in the Limited.  A number of door prizes were drawn during the evening.  Thanks to everyone for coming and making it a wonderful evening.

In the Limited Game,
Julie Scaggs-Chibe and Bill Nolan came in first N-S with Gene and Beverly Pillot second.  Vivian Heading and Evelyn Farnan were first E-W, Betty Miller and Esther Reeves
were second, with Wayne and Sarah Ash third.

Kathy and Jay Baum, friends of Candy Griffey, joined us and felt so at home, they came in first N-S with a 66% game.  Kathy and Candy are old friends meeting before man walked on the moon. We enjoyed meeting Kathy and Jay, hope they come back soon,  and wish them well in the New year.  Also, good luck to their Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl (but with due deference to our Florida fans, we do not wish too much luck to Iowa!)

Coming in second N-S were Linda Miller and Martha Easter with Bill Farnan and Marvin Kindy third.

E-W, Candy Griffey and Joe Reeves, were first with a 64% game. Max and Betty Bayard were second and coming in third were
Vivian Davis and Norma Bartholomew.

Happy New Year!

ACBL CEO here for New Year's Eve Party

Jay Baum, ACBL CEO, and his wife Kathy will attend our New Year's Eve Party on Saturday, December 31st.  We are delighted they are joining us.

Jay and Kathy, both from Iowa and loyal
Hawkeye fans, will attend the Outback Bowl on January 2nd where Iowa plays Florida.  Fellow Iowan, Candy Griffey,  will join them for the game.  Candy and Kathy are long-time friends and bridge partners.  In the Atlanta Nationals this past July, their team came in 2nd in the prestigious Wagar Knockouts.

We extend a warm welcome to Jay and Kathy. (Dec 17, 2005)

Webmaster observation:  Most people from Iowa look up to Minnesota

A message from ...
GARY and LYNDA SWENSON want to thank everyone at the Daytona Metropolitan Bridge Club for your warm hospitality and willingness to help us play a better bridge game or find a good place to eat in the area.  We will continue to come back about the same time each year and hope that some of you will someday come to Wichita Falls, TX (our legal residence), Ruidoso, NM (our Summer home from early July to early October each year), or to Wilmington, Delaware (we've just got us a place there to be near our younger daughter).  Please be sure to call us before coming (940-781-9999 or e-mail
lyndaswen@aol.com) and we'll give you assistance on where to eat, places to play bridge during your stay, or try to answer your other general questions about the area.

Thanks to all of your directors (we really like the lessons and professionalism of all of you).  There are many others we would like to thank but don't want to leave anyone out and so until next year or until you come to a place where we are.  Goodbye. (Nov 20, 2005)

(Thanks Gary and Lynda. We are delighted you came, saddened you left and warmed by the thought of your return.)

Congratulations to John Dunlap who recently earned his Life Master.  (November 9, 2005)
